Value of a warm up before a non routine activity or any sport.

tanishawagh

Doing something outside of your usual routine or playing an active sport or activity requires a certain level of readiness of your body. Not preparing the body can cause an avoidable injury. We tend to underestimate the significance of warm ups & cool downs.

Another fact to understand is that the warm up has to be somewhat mimicking the movements of the intended activity or sport so that the relevant body parts & muscles are prepared or ready for action. It has to be a functional dynamic warm up that could involve movements you will use in that particular sport. Passive warm ups are ok for minor activities not involving rapid movements. The blood flow into the muscles after a warm up allows for better contraction & relaxation of the muscles & joints thereby decreasing chances of injuries such as sprains, pulls & tears. Your heart too is ready to exert under increased strain. Similarly a gradual cool down & passive stretching  is necessary to allow the muscles including the heart muscle to relax slowly & surely without a sudden drop of temperature & pressure. The heart rate should slowly drop to your resting heart rate.

So guys, the next time you exert in any way, try to incorporate a warm up & a cool down in your routine 🙏
